Respite Care in Washington State

Respite Care is a short-term stay — often one to four weeks — in an Assisted Living community, Adult Family Home, or Memory Care community. People choose it for more than one reason. It's a genuine break for a family caregiver who needs to rest, travel, or recover — but it's just as often chosen by someone who needs short-term support themselves. After a surgery, for instance, many people would rather recover somewhere with a medical team to help with dressing, bathing, toileting, and medication management — where the meals are made, there are activities to do, and there are plenty of people to visit with — instead of going home with family help or hiring in-home caregivers.

You're given a fully furnished studio, so all you need to bring is your toiletries and clothing. That makes it especially handy after a discharge from a hospital or skilled nursing facility — for those times when insurance coverage ends but you're not quite set up to care for yourself at home alone.
